To the best of my knowledge, if you are already diabetic you can't enlist.

On the other hand, if you become diabetic after enlisting, it is my understanding that (while you would not be eligible for active combat duty) you could be re-assigned to other duties where you diabetes would not be an issue.

My Uncle is a diabetic and just finished a tour in Iraq. He developed it after joining but before shipping out. He's an engineer which can fall under combat operations depending on the circumstances.

No because when my husband was in the Air force and had gotten back from being over seas he found out he was type 2 and they told him he couldn't go over seas anymore and then a few years latter he was let go because he couldn't go over seas and the sad part is he only had 7 more years before he made he's 20 year mark. So chances are no.

I served in the Navy with diabetics. They all developed diabetes after enlistment. Diabetes disqualifies one from the submarine service. AFAIK, if one already has diabetes one will not be accepted for enlistment.

sort of. They cannot join as far as i know but if you get it while they are in if you can deal with it they will sometimes waiver you and let you stay in. I knew someone in the navy who had it and got a waiver to stay in.

With the demands for manning lately who knows what they will waiver never hurts to try. The rules say they cannot get in but you may be able to get a waiver.

Nope. The complications of maintaining the condition make it unsafe.
