Whatever people say to him, ignore those remarks, and move on. Your'e giving good advice to him, and keep supporting him. There will always be people who can't seem to stop making jokes. I know ignoring probalbly might not solve anything, but it stops the risk of making a big deal out of it. Even through its the truth, his self esteem will get hurt, and he will react sooner or later.

Look, first he probably tried to join in the fun b/c he felt like there was nothing else that he could do and did not want to seem "too sensitive." I would do two things. 1. speak to those who are making fun of him. Talk to them privately and tell them that you can tell that he is quite offended and they should tone it down.
2. Speak with the man privately. It does not have to be a long talk or anything. But, let him know how you feel.
And, continue to strive for peace and harmony.
If ppl try and say that "it is just a joke,"
remind them that he is the only Nigerian there and it is quite lonely when "you" are the only butt of a joke.
They might not stop, but they will know how uncomfrotable that it makes both you and him.
ANd, he will feel better knowing that he is not the only one who dislikes their comments.

Talk privately with the those making the most jokes, call them on the phone. Ask them to lay off unless your Nigerian friend starts it. Go with your instincts. Try not to laugh and possibly counter the rude joke by reminding them he is a guest in our country.
