When you chose to stop receiving "prescreened" offers by calling 1-888-5-OPT-OUT does it also make it impossible for your credit to be checked when you are applying for things you want like a mortgage or car. I have been told by several co-workers that if I do this everything shuts down and even people who I want to see my score will not be able to see my score. Any information is appreciated.

No, it does not affect you that way. You are just saying you don't want companies pre-screening you for unwanted credit. I opt outed months ago and have obtained several loans since. Did you see that opting out improved your credit score?

Thats not true. The opt out option is only for creditors who regularly look through credit reports, identify the best ones and send them preapproved offers of credit. When you apply for any kind of loan you are signing papers authorizing the lender to check your credit report, and they can see your report. Basically it just means that unless you dont authorize it nobody gets into your credit file.
