There are several ways. Success in any one of them depends on how "hear-headed" your kitty is:
1. Whenever you catch himon the countertop, say, "No!" and imediately lift him off and down to the floor. When that does not work...
2. Whenever he even looks like he will jump up on a counter or table top (or when you catch him on it), clap your hands real loud while moving towards him, saying "No!" When that does not work...
3. Squirt him whenever he gets on top a table or counter or even looks like he wants to jump on it. When that doesn't work...
4. Booby-trap his favorite counter or table tops with double-sided tape. Cats hate getting their paws on sticky icky stuff.
Usually, eve the most stubborn cats I've had lose interest in table and counter tops when I do method No. 2 consistently.

get a spray bottle and fill it w/water and spray ur cat everytime you catch him on the countertop or table. Don't hit him or her and
this is a easy way to displine him or her w/out having to do anything that would hurt the cat.

I taught my cat that she cannot get on counters or tables by saying no. Every time you catch her yell no to scare her. Cats hate loud noises. Don't hit her if she doesn't listen, instead slide her off the counter. Also if that doesn't work try putting a sticky material on it like tape or fly paper so when she jumps up there she feels that nasty sticky feeling before to long she will decide its icky up there and jump no more.

Get double-sided tape and put it right where he lands when he jumps up there.
Cats hate it when their feet stick to something.
Try it, you'll be surprised how effective it is. After a week, you can remove the tape and the cat won't jump up there anymore.

Spread foil on the counter. Cats hate the sound it makes when they jump on it. There are also battery operated mats you can buy that will emit a loud noise when the cat jumps on it.

They sell a spray at Pets-mart and Pet-co or most popular kinds of pet stores, and you spray it where you dont want your animals to go. I dont know if it works but its worth a try. Ive also heard cats dont like the smell of oranges or lemons or something and to spray it where you dont want them to go. Try both and good luck

I too use a water bottle and then say "no-no(and his name)". He's almost 3 yr.s and it took him maybe 2 days to learn this when he was 1.5 yr.s old!
