Since the sin is making graven images, disposing of them would be sin relieving.
Edit... and yes of course, in the secular sense, polluting the river would be sinful.
You're damned if you do, damned if you don't... I recommend recycyling.

I don't see what's wrong with discarding them in the trash. At least you wouldn't be littering. So, to answer you question from a Christian's perspective...Yes, it's a sin because you would be breaking the law by littering.

before defiling the river water try the city dump it's no sin unless what you choose to beleive so and then I think it's just in your head
