Any ideas would be great this is disgusting.

They have pills that you can get from your vet that aren't too expensive that you give for 2 weeks. Or you can try the old fashioned method and feed them pineapple. Works half the time, some dogs you just can't break though. My lab is going to be 9 & he still does it !!!

I wish I knew the answer - It's so easy to say "pick it up" - but DER, if it was that easy you wouldn't be asking the question, right ? We're at work all day, so we can't pick up every poop and our little boy dog only eats our other dog's, not his own.
We've tried pineapple in her food, so he wont eat her poop but it doesn't work... we've tried everything !
I wold never slap his mouth as suggested - besides you wont see him do it every time so that wont be effective...
But by the way, it's not necessarily unhealthy as another answerer suggested - vets are unconcerned with the health issues of this practice in general. Really the only worry is if there are worms in the poop - but if it's your own dogs, they should be wormed and if it's outside dogs, keep him on a leash to be safe...
ItIt might be disgusting to us but obviously not to dogs - sooo many of them do it...

When I was a kid there was a stray dog in our town. He was HUGE!!! but his ribs stuck out and nobody liked him but me. When it was time for school to be out he would be waiting outside for me and he would walk home with me. One day we were walking along and he had to do his thing-you know poop. Well he turned around as he started to go and ate it as it came out his butt!!!! I was 9 yrs old and totally disgusted by what I had just witnessed! I ran home as fast as I could to tell my mom what I just seen. I kept every penny I got to save up money to buy dog food for him. So I think maybe your dog is just really hungry! If you are feeding him then maybe he has worms and needs some worm meds from the vet. Don't get the stuff at Wal Mart it won't work. If he rubs his butt across the floor like he's itching it then he might have worms. Dogs are great but they sure can be nasty huh?

One way to get a dog from eating poop is to feed it some spinach. If it's eating its own poop give the spinach to him(her?), or give it to the other dog. They normally can't STAND the smell of (spinach) poop. Put some mixed up in there food. Hope it helps..Oh, usually it's a vita min deficiency when they pig out on pooh.

I can certainly agree that this is a disgusting habit, but they do not think so. I have yet to have a dog that hasn't done it.
I have discouraged this in the past by finding a likely "treat" in the yard and sprinkling it with a good dose of red pepper. Do this consistently, and you will likely eliminate (no pun intended) this problem. It worked for me!

where is the poop? cat box spray bitter apple in the box in the yard keep your dog on a leash then he wont eat poop

try feeding him on a regular basis.if he keeps doing it punish him.dogs only eat it if they have to.also try picking up after it.if there is no poop in the yard it can't eat it.not saying you don't feed it regular but maybe somebody didn't before you got it.once they get in the habit if it it is hard to break but it can be done if you keep it picked up and punish them when they do eat it.

He may cannot recognise a different between food or poop. He just smell something--immediately he decide to eat it.
Teach him that he cannot eat poop. My way is slap his mounth immediately when he eat it. He may cannot understand why I hit him but he knows he cannot do that kind of thing.

the reason dogs eat poop is because they are missing something is their diet. try a better dog food with more vit..

I totally agree about the disgusting part, But GOOD LUCK stopping them.... I've tried EVERYTHING!!!.And I mean everything, watch out for all those stupid remedies.
The best way to stop em.... pick it up as soon as he/she drops it.
