I have never experienced joy. I know what it is to not physically hunger when I eat or what it is to not feel pain when I am treated with morphine. However, my spirit has been depleted since as long as I can remember. I don't know how to smile and the few people who have lived with me say I have not smiled or laughed since I was a toddler. I don't even know what those words mean.
The only reason that I know that Joy is a good thing is that those who have joy do not inflict pain upon themselves or hope to end their lives and my instincts drive me to be anti-pain.

Is joy a lie they tell people in order to mock those who don't have it?

Is it a fable meant to give hope to real people?

...or is it real?

If it is real to you, when and how do you experience it? I need to know whom to serve.

Zeke, joy is very real. People, i think, feel different degrees of joy. There are many reasons for this. I feel joy at alot of things. I love sunsets, waterfalls, leaves changing colors in the fall, snow falling, most of all my children. I get so happy, I feel like my chest will burst. This is the closest I can get to describing it. Whom to serve? There is no answer for this question. Nobody knows what the truth is about God. Look at all the suffering in the world created by people who think they know God. Just be a good person, care for others, love everyone. This would be difficult for you because of you being depressed.

Yes joy is real.

I experience joy when:
the people I love the most are happy
when my children get along and laugh together
when I accomplish what I set out to do in a day
The greatest joy for me is knowing Christ as my Lord and Savior

I hope that you find joy in Him

Sorry to hear about your afflictions and pain

There is a book that you might be interested in, it is the called
"The God I Love" by Joni Eareckson Tada
This is a true story, the book is a memoir. Joni is a quadriplegic and has been since she was a teenager, she finds joy in life despite her disability.
I hope you can either read it or have it read to you. It will help you see that there is hope.

Do you mean joy....or happiness....they are two entirely different things. Joy is internal and often very consistent. It is knowing your place in the universe, living a fulfilling life and doing your best. These things bring joy. Happiness on the other hand comes and goes and is dependent on circumstance. You need a good dose of both I would imagine. However, only you can give yourself what you need. Depending on others for joy or happiness is a recipe for despair. You do not need to serve anyone nor have them serve you.

I would suggest that you look for the Goddess. She does not require submission from her children, nor does she threaten them with hell fire.

I've experienced the condition that you describe. Joylessness can be spiritual or it can chemical, but either way, the greatest lesson that some of us need is to learn to disallow our emotional state from defining what is real for us. But now I know that my redeemer lives, and have learned to joy as it says in 1 Peter1:8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:

Here are a few more verses with joy in the context of faith which is where joy finds its most meaningful expression.

Matthew 13:44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.

Luke 1:10 Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

Psalm 30:5 For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

I pray that you find comfort and joy in faith, in repenting and believing for salvation through the redeeming power of the Lamb of God which taketh away the sin of the world.

yeah. Go on youtube.com, and in the search query type either: "Richard Pryor", or "Eddie Murphy", or "George Lopez".
Or just go watch some pornography. lol. Or actually go out and work. Working is hell, so if you go to hell, and then come back again, when you come back again, it will be somewhat close to heaven. Or actually learn how to enjoy work. You can teach yourself how to enjoy things, with time and effort. Or go explore. Do something productive. Help other people. Donate your time. Donate your money. Donate your labor. Help the homeless, the sick, or the impoverished. Go to church. Get off the go dda mn computer, and live a real life.

Abracadabra abracazam
make this hermit be as happy
as he can.

There you should be cured. =D

Yes joy is real.I am never in a bad mood, because I choose not to be, and always have a smile upon my face. I serve only God Almighty. You have a choice each day when you awaken to have a good day or a bad day, the choice is up to you.Life is what you make of it, not what others or society makes of it.

of course it is real it's just that some people never experience joy or love or pretty much any happy emotions. I'm not sure understand your question to all of its extent, but you seem really depressed. and when our deppressed you usually do stupid things that you will really regret later on................ so please try not to be so sad, because you'll lose alot of things in your life that are important to you like alot of your friends and you'll lose girlfriends/boyfriends.
