I'm a Marine, and I really hate the fact that the media is involved in Iraq and Afghan, and quite simply, in any war. They cannot be showing all that stuff, because they are always gonna oppose to that war and they will want us to get out since all they see is violence and death. If the media is gonna be showing everything by going to the enemies soil, Americans are always gonna be like they are with Iraq, they want us out and now our enemies are seeing a sign of weakness. We are fighitng with no support, i know people say they support us, but i'm saying they don't support what we're doing. And to me, how can you support us if you don't support what we do??
We won WW2 with everyones support, but answer me this:
Do you think Americans at that time, would have supported WW2 if the media would have shown live footage of US Soldiers landing in Omaha Beach?
I don't think anybody would have supported that, and it's understandable. But Americans need to remember, freedom ain't free.

The simple question is, do you agree or disagree?

I know this is a different war than WW2, it was just an example of how things have changed.

I know there was cameras back then, but you can't compare the media of today, to the media of back in the days.

And i know it was probably a mistake going to Iraq, but i don't regret the fact that we got rid of Saddam, his regime was one of the most harsh and brutal regimes since Nazi Germany with Hitler.

If it's true that if we leave Iraq, and it will get so bad that we'll have to go back in a worst situation, then i think we should stay and get the job done. I support anything that is right for us, if by leaving Iraq will be better for us, and if they know that for sure, there won't be any consequences, then we should leave.

I do agree that the media should not be allowed a free hand covering a war. Since Vietnam it has become so easy and fast to get the blood and gore on the TV. Nietnam is a good wxample of what the media can cause. Most of the unrest during that war is a direct result of the media. That is also a huge problem with Iraq and other places now.

Yes WWII had popular news reels. I know I was there to see the. I think you would more likely say they were propaganda than anything else. They helped people believe in what was hapening. Fighting for freedom and glad to do it.

Now it is the media that is destroying that needed patriotic vigor.

The power of the press as they have said for many years. Yes it can tear a nation apart and even destroy it. It has before and will again.

OK Infantry Boy - you are NOT a MARINE. You have been asking so many questions about computer games on this website. These games have obviously gone to your head and now you are a bit delusional and THINK that you are a marine. You also say in an earlier question that you are army! Then you ask a question about your friend joining the marines with a GED! Surely being a marine this is something you would know.

Did you complete that Rainbow Six mission for instance. Did you get thee game working - the one you downloaded but wouldn't work. What do you do for the marines - are their PlayStation champion or something? Are you a VIRTUAL MARINE? I think I was right in saying you are a little boy at a computer with some very naive ideas.

You also know next to nothing about the situation in Iraq and Afghanistan. The Media need to be there to keep marines and other gung-ho idiots in line. The govt doesn't hold them accountable so somebody has to. Also Iraq and Afghanistan are in every-bodies interest and thus people have a right to know.

PS nice of you to block e-mails - I guess I cut you too close to the bone. A REAL MARINE would have stood up for himself.

Disagree, this is a different war than WW2. Speaking of, the third reich was very famous for censorship. We have been showing the gore since the civil war, (since cameras were invented). I don't think the opposition of the war has everything to do with the violence in Iraq. It has to do with the fact that there are more terrorists operating in other countries besides Iraq, and there are no WMDs in Iraq (which supposedly was the justification for going in in the first place).

A soldier is trained to follow orders. You are only allowed to do what you are told. You are discouraged from making independent judgments. We can support you without supporting your bosses.

If your boss was putting you in harms way for no good reason, wouldn't you want someone to point out that he is an ******, fire him and give you a more competent one?

War footage from WW2 were extremely popular news reels, there was extensive news coverage of WW2.

Iraq is not WW2, not by a longshot.

You are correct, the American people do not support the War on Iraq, therefore we should not be in Iraq and should redeploy to Afhganistan.

I don't believe all media but I will certainly will not support all government as well. In war just like in democracy there has to be check and balances, and without it you are not fighting for freedom but you are fighting for fascism. There is a thin line between democracy and fascism and if not checked that line can break. So to see the death and the reality of war is not a bad thing, but it is a deterrent to make sure that war is the final option not the first one.

The media has surly changed since WW2, and for the worst. Back then the media did even do a story on FDR's handicap and yet today they wouldn't hesitate.

sorry to disagree but the only sign of weakness that our enemies see is our invading a nation that had nothing to do with the 9/11 attacks and nothing to do with the larger war on terror.

it was the decision to invade iraq in the first place that makes us weak...

I totally agree with you man! It's not what they're showing, it's more of their position. The mainstream media is biased in America and wants the war to go bad in order to embarrass the president. I hear all the troops stick to Fox News when they're watching TV, and with good reason.

Thank you and your fellow service members for your service and God speed!
