You are in a pickle...why won't they give you the title?

In the meantime, driving the car is not an option for you. For one, you can not insure a vehicle you do not own, and since you don't have the title in your possession, you have no proof you own it. Second, you have no insurance.

You need to get the title or dump the car off & get your money back.

If you have a bill of sale, you can do a title search. Or use the VIN number of the car, located on you dashboard. Looking through your windshield, it will be on the drivers' side, near the base. Failing that, consult an attorney. If you paid $500 or more for that vehicle, then you may have a case for grand larceny. Good Luck, it sounds like the previous owner is a bit shady.
