i have trouble remembering things that i learn in school. i get inconsistent grades as a result of this. i feel like i am kinda smart but more street smart than book smart. i can remember things like sports scores and stats and that is why i am so perplexed. i also cant sleep until 1130 and i have to wake up at 730 the next day. i need help.

You don't remember things from school because it doesn't interest you or you don't see the value in it. You do value sports and probably like most young people music interests you also. The multi-millionaire sports stars and rock musicians are very happy that you like them. Now I am not saying that everything in school should interest you, but I am saying that something in school should interest you. There are a variety of interesting topics. Do well on the ones you like, do your best on the ones you don't really like. Street smart is good, but not good enough in today's fast paced, high tech world. Not everything you learn in school is to be memorized. The processes of reason, logic, and problem solving is very important for your lifetime. But graduating high school is at the very least, proof that you are trainable in some field. Good luck. You sound smart enough to do well.

What is it that makes you remember the sports scores and stats? Probably that you are so interested in them. I'm not trying to be "smart" but can you find a way to make your school work more interesting?
Also, if you put too much pressure on yourself to remember things, it often backfires, and the stress could cause you to forget what you are trying so hard to remember.
When I took education courses in college, one thing we learned was that the more senses you use in your learning, the more likely you will be to remember what you learned. While you are reading new material, it may help to read some of it out loud, like maybe the important points. Also, when you are trying to memorize certain important points, you could count them--one on each finger or use some motion like that as you speak them out loud. That way you are seeing the written material, hearing it as you say it out loud, and then engaging your sense of touch (or utilizing tactile-kinesthetic learning) at the same time. It is more likely to stick that way.
As for your sleep, that may also be holding you back. Being tired is going to make you more stressed and have a more difficult time studying and learning. Teens typically have trouble going to bed early in the evening (it is due to a hormone fluctuation, science has proven it) and getting up in the morning. Also, teens can go through a rapid growth period which makes the body need more sleep than you might have previously needed at an earlier stage of your life. (and then when you get through the teen years, the need for sleep will decrease again).
The only thing you might do is to be sure not to go to bed later than 11:30, and then try to catch up on sleep during the weekend, (but don't stay in bed too late in the morning, as that will throw you off even more, maybe just an hour or two more)

its really good that you have identified what kind of a learner you are - you are a numerical learner. There are up to 16 different types of intelligences, and a similar amount of learning styles. This means that in a nutsheel different people are good at different things. The key to school, where everybody is taught the same thing the same way regarless of intelligences and learning styles, is to find what works for you.
For example, I am a visual learner - i remember what I see. So when I study i make mind maps, diagrams, charts and tables to help me remember. Other people are audio learners, which means they remember most what they hear. You should do a little research on the net to learn more. start with googling "the 16 habits of mind", sorry cant remember any names. Oh yes I do, look up surname: gardener.
Make sure you dont drink caffeine int he evenings, and if you want to sleep earlier, try taking valerian - its a herb, but it makes you drowsy. you can buy it in a capsule from most health food stores.

thats normal man dont worry im the same i just do my homework and i dont go sleep till 12 and i wake up at 7 o clock just do ur homework and pay attention in class and study once in a while

its possibly a form of dyslexia. i have 3 children who are extremely intelligent but had the same problems like you in school. you need someone who understands and can help you find a way that you can learn. everybody is different.

short term memory, you just have to work harder take more notes than normal people, for tests i used index cards ,question on front answer on back keep working hard you can do it
