This type of pain indicates nerve involvement. It is possible that you have strained and weakened one or more muscles in this area. Other muscles may be working too hard to compensate for the strain to the damaged area. If these muscles bulk up they could be applying pressure to any number of nerves found in that area. Try to see your doctor and make an arrangement for physio therapy if you can.

The pain is the nerves and yes it is fairly common.
There is a book that teaches about muscles, pain and referred pain anywhere in the body. The principle is that the muscles get knots called trigger points which make the muscles tight that then press on nerves. It teaches how to get them to release which gets rid of the pain.
The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.
I also use a chiropractor and massage therapist as needed.

It usually takes 3-4 visits before a root canal is completed. Your dentist should have taken x-rays of the tooth before beginning the root canal. Maybe since that x-ray was taken, you have developed an infection. To be sure, the dentist can take another x-ray to see if there is a pus pocket that is causing the pain, especially if you feel pressure. I would called the dentist and get something to ease the pain and find out why this continues to hurt.

Muscle strain will cause heat because the muscle is imflamed.

Put ice on it and rest.

It's inflammation in the muscles, treat with Ibuprofen. If it continues for 10days or more, I'd see the doc.
