I think the person with the problem sees herself/himself as fat, and even though they may become TOO skinny, they don't see it. So in answer to your question, they probably can't see any difference.

Anorexia cannot be cured by good intentions and concerned friends. Your friend has a problem in how she perceives herself to be. For a normal person who looks at an anorexic person in the mirror when all we can see is skin and bone, yet the sufferer sees a fat person....you dont have to be Einstein to work out your friend has a mind problem. A lot of people call it a disease...maybe a disease of the mind, but certainly not of the body....its how they perceive themselves and its not real...they are looking at skin and bone...they are looking at a dying person, but they just never see it. Your friend needs professional help...no two ways about it. You cannot help your friend by anything you say and do....only a professional can help your friend. What you can do is tell her how serious the problem is and she needs professional help because thats about all you can do. She has to recognise there is a problem first. Her parents need to force her into therapy because if they dont they will lose her....she will die. Maybe what the parents need to do is admit her into a hospital where she can be monitored 24 hours a day....no running off to the toilet to be sick....she will be made to eat and she wont be allowed to throw it up again. Once her body gets used to eating and she gets the correct counselling, then maybe she has a chance at a good life. You cant take the easy road with an anorexic because very rarely does an anorexic live if there has been no professional intervention.

Well I can't answer that because I do not skip any meals and no I ain't fat and I do not worry about getting fat either. If I was you I would be trying to encourage "her" to eat, not find out how long she had to go without eating to see bad changes in "her" body.

it depends on the person. some may take some time like a month or two while others only take less than a month... actually most people would notice changes in the person's teeth first.

if you are the one who has this crippling disease, then you are in denial and should immediately, seek medical advice with a certified physician in a live setting.

if it's really your friend and you know she is anorexic, get her to talk to a certified physician in a live setting......
