I know nothing about this area! Can anyone give me any tips on what neighborhoods to stay away from, reasonable rent for 2bed/2bath apartment, areas I should look into (I'm a young single girl) etc?

bay ridge/bensonhurst are good neighborhoods. I work in bayridge/dyker heights in a local bar. It will be a little hard to get a 2 bed/2bath most apts dont offer that...2bed yes....prob around 1200 to 1400.Its also close to everything and perfect if your single and looking to meey people there are bars all over bay ridge and park slope any kind you can think. My bar is just a local spot a lot of regulars and people just moving into to the area looking for a comfortable place to have a drink.. if u want more info you can email me at karissa12078@yahoo

Depends....Bay Ridge is a good but you only have the R train to get into manhattan. Bensonhurst seems reasonable, has access to the D, N, Q and F although personally they're all disgusting except the Q line but during the week it's easily transferable to the B which is express of a brooklyn Q. There's shopping in both areas but Bay Ridge is a bit nicer and you have both 86th between 5th and 4th, 5th ave itself and 3rd ave also has shopping. There's also street fairs in the summer in Bay Ridge and one under 86th street in Bensonhurst(86th street runs through both neighborhoods). If you drive though, parking's a bit tougher in Bay Ridge. This covers west although there's also Gravesend but Avenue U is mostly asian, so unless you're asian too, you're might feel a bit singled out over there.

There's the south east parts: sheepshead, brighton, marine park, bergen beach, manhattan beach...

They're all great areas, brighton beach is nice in the summer but thats also little Odessa. Sheepshead and Marine Park are nice, quiet but Marine park basically has a bus line or two, no subways. Sheepshead only has the Q and B lines but some stores. Manhattan beach is for the rich as well as bergen but as far as nice areas, of course they are but nothing really there besides houses and the community college in manhattan beach.

A bit further up from Bay ridge though now is sunset park which is ehhhh alright and then Park Slope but for prices, you probably have to be lucky to get a good deal because those people have money and are your local hipsters.

Midwood I heard isnt too bad. Mostly hasidic jews but they dont bother anyone. Borough Park's also hasidic and Kensington's alright mostly. Basically in pricing, logically, the cheaper the rent, the worse your area's getting in most cases. Most people move from brooklyn to staten island because prices get too high sometimes.
