it depends on whether the cause of your back pain is actually the bed. back pain can be caused by not having enough support in your shoes, being overweight, lifting too much the wrong way, stress, etc. there are also less expensive alternatives to the tempurpedic bed. the same material mattress toppers are available from costco for about $120 for a queen size. i have one on my bed and it is awesome. good luck.

Hi,
I found many interesting info about sciatica here: http://curesciatica.toptips.org
While looking for a miracle cure, it has to be understood that sciatica pain in itself is not a disease. It is actually a symptom or a group of symptoms with an underlying cause that needs to be targeted if some sort of permanent pain relief is what one is looking for. But one thing is absolutely clear. Incorporating a few exercises that have a beneficial effect on sciatica pain in daily regime is of great help and whether a patient is taking drugs or not, these exercises ensure that his muscles are kept in a toned condition that lessen any flare up of pain. Just a few stretching exercises can bring about a drastic change in the levels of pain and signify the importance of exercise in the management of sciatica pain.

If the cause of back pain is a bad mattress, then the right mattress can help. It can help alleviate pressure point pain and offer support where it is needed.
You really need to try both of these mattresses for yourself to see what you prefer before your purchase.
If I had to choose, it would probably be the Select Comfort type bed because of the versatility. Plus I have slept on one and can't imagine anything better.

My cousin and her husband have a Select Comfort bed and she says her back pain has all but disappeared. She and he both have really bad backs, and tho she said they paid like the price of a small car for the bed, she says it is worth every penny. I can't see myself ever paying that for a bed, but then I don't have chronic back pain.

We bought a Tempur mattress lst year and we've both had radical changes in our sleep - all for the good. My Partner has a bacd back and I have Brittle Asthma. They are expensive but soooo worth it. DONT but the immitiation brands tho, waste of money.
Good luck

I can recommend a book that deals with muscles, pain and referred pain that may be a much less expensive way of you dealing with your pain and making it go AWAY.
The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies.
The muscles get knots called trigger points which make them tight then they press on nerves.
