Yes. There is Private (Pvt or E-1) and Private First Class (PFC or E-2). Most likely, the young Marine is a Private First Class upon graduating Infantry schooling. After that, the Marine will probably be assigned to a unit that is stateside, but may deploy to a combat area anytime.

It should be noted, however the Marine will be assigned a MOS (Military Occupational Speciality) which can be contracted through his Recruiter before he ships to Recruit Training (highly recommended).

If this is your child, please sit down with his Recruiter for more information.

Ummm... whats a private second class? Do you mean Private, the first enlisted rank? Or did you mean Private First class, there is no second class to my knowledge, and Private is JUST referred to as Private...
Regardless, As long as you complete your MOS training in Infantry Rifleman (6 weeks) after boot, then you'll be able to, regardless of rank.

Absolutely! Private 2nd Class is just a rank, (a paygrade). Every one who joins the USMC as a non-commissioned officer goes through this rank on their way up... in every job title, no matter what you do!
