Most people like to just live. Find a satisfying job and someone to love and be loved maybe a couple of kids. A dog and cat and help others and do a few things for fun.
If all you do was fun then it wouldn't be fun anymore.
So yes life is what you make it to be.
When i have fun the most is when I am not trying to make myself happy. The smile on a babies face, a grandma's joy when you enter a room. a loving family and a few friends.
Picking a winning team or guessing the right answer on millionaire. It is not the big stuff that makes you happy.
It is the little stuff. Proving your brother wrong, yea that's the best.

I believe we are all God's children. Of course He wants us to be happy; and because He knows better than anyone what will give us happiness. The world provides alot of "instant cures," that do not last, but the reason why the Lord gives us commandments is because He wants us to find happiness, and He has given us guidelines.
Hope this helped. God bless.

There is no purpose for our existence. Just have fun with your life. Humans do things that make them happy because that is what they are programmed to do. That's why being happy feels good- it's your brain's reward system. It has been developed over millions of years, but nowadays with technology the things that make us happy are less relevant to the survival of our species, so we ask questions like the one you just did.

True happiness, yes; false happiness, no.
False happiness is to own and enjoy all what we want.
True happiness is to provide other people with what they need for a decent living. I know that this is true happiness, because it is commanded by all the Messengers of the One True God in Their Holy Books.

It doesn't matter, our purpose isn't the universe's purpose. The purpose of the universe is to perpetuate itself cyclicly, and every quantum particle in the universe makes up the whole, the source, or in other words, God. We are all a part of God as are all things, our purpose in the universe is to be a part of it, "good" or "bad". Our "spiritual" purpose on earth is to share all that you are. Including your knowledge, your talent, your love, your hopes, your fears. If you feel you have no love to share than you must begin be loving yourself. Nurture your self, your knowledge, your talents, then share them freely. Too bad we live in a capitalist global culture, but we can change that if we teach our children how ridiculous capitalism is.
Yes, enjoy yourself, but more importantly, en-joy others. Now wait, that doesn't mean to derive or obtain joy FROM them, but to en-joy them as you would en-courage or en-rage. To truly en-joy means to create joy. So enjoy others and you will find it quite enjoyable.

What should be the purpose of our existence then? to make ourselves unhappy? or to be content with whatever since everything is only illusion and retire to a cave to meditate on the human condition?

Take a look around. If the sole purpose for our existence is to make ourselves happy...something's not workin'. The sole purpose for our existence is fellowship with God.

Yes. Happiness and pleasure is what makes life worth living. But we all seem to have unique and complex methods for achieving that end.

Jesus said: "For whoever wishes to save His life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake, he is the one who will save it." (Luke 9:24)
The word for "life" here is the Greek word psuche, or soul, and speaks of the life of a person subjectively. That is, it is his ego, if you will; his subjective perception and experience. His will, his thoughts, his feelings, his appetites, his aspirations and dreams.
When our own happiness is the chief aim and end of our existence, we will inevitably fail to attain the very thing we are seeking, like a man trying to catch his own shadow.
It is only when we restore God to His rightful position as the Giver and rightful Possessor of our souls and all that pertains to us that we can attain contentment and a place of personal satisfaction with our own existence.
With man, this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. You must be born again.

John Piper wrote a book called “Desiring God.” It promoted the idea of Christian Hedonism. The philosophy is that man was create to live for pleasure, and that the greatest pleasure is found in God.
