Well if your pup is ok on his own and isn't distressed or causing a disturbance, then i would leave him down stairs, seperation anxeity is a very hard behaviour to correct when older and if your pup is ok at the moment you should be very gratefull. If your pup is beeing loud and disturbing then i would suggest getting a crate to go in your room aswell. You could get one simlar to the one downstairs, because remember your pup has to have room to move about in it when older. You could just get a basket for upstairs,or a crate that is slightly smaller,or which does him through puppyhood.Your pup should be ok with adapting to the 2nd crate, but just make sure you never force him in and make it really cosy and warm.Only use that one for bedtime otherwise your pup may become confused about where he's meant to be staying.Good luck.

I think it would be a good idea. This has multiple benefits if you get the portable kind. I use a portable crate to take to my obedience classes and it's nice to have something light weight to keep my puppy in when we are driving down the road. The portable kind are excellent due to their light weight and ease to break down and fold up if you need to do so. I love mine! Make sure that if you do get the fabric portable kind that your puppy is fully crate trained. Dogs that are not will sometimes "dig" at the crate and this can cause the seams to pull loose. With an investment between $80-$140, you don't want it to get beat up by a dog that isn't well adjusted to crating.
ADDED: Absolutely NOTHING wrong with keeping a puppy crated in your room--better because you will hear puppy whine if puppy NEEDS to go potty. We do it with ours. Never had a problem beyond the first few nites of whining, and this was the "getting used to crating" phase.

He should have no problem adjusting to a second crate. If he loves the crate downstairs already he will like the second one. To help him adjust put a blanket with his and your sent on it in the crate, maybe a toy or two. If your travel crate is large enough for him to stand and turn around than go for it. If not buy one that will fit him. Good luck and give him a biscuit for me.

Smaller crates are usually better all around. A pup doesn't need more space than to turn around and lie down... If they have too much room, they will often designate part of the crate as a potty area. Not good. You might want to see about swapping the jumbo crate for another small one and put one smallish one on each floor.

You should stick to 1 crate for a puppy. I idea of crate training is to give a pup its own space. Somewhere to sleep, and go where no one can bother it. If you keep changing it the pup can get confused. The downstairs crate will become a cage not a crate.
Glade to see the doggie business guy knows so much. Ive bred and trained labrador retrevers, collies and german shepards for over 30 years.

I thought about doing this, but he loves his big downstairs crate and accepts that is where he sleeps at night, so I did not bother taking him upstairs. Theres' not really much point if he is used to sleeping downstairs then fine.

I used 2 crates with my pup successfully. I had one in the living room area, and kept one in my bedroom. I wanted and used on in the bedroom so I could hear him when he had to go potty in the middle of the night. I actually moved both crates around as needed and never had a problem.

is he quiet in the one down stairs? i would not move him upstairs if he is good downstairs. have a crate upstairs is ok but not need. being that he is or will be left alone sometimes. if he likes one crate he will do ok with the other crate. my dogs sleep in and out of the open doored crates all the time.

If his second bed is comfortable he should like sleeping in it fine. He'l probably show a preference to one bed more than the other,it will be whichever he finds most comfortable. Most dogs like sleeping in the same room as their owner so you'l probably find that he likes sleeping in the one in your room the most because thats where you are.I have dogbeds in my bedroom & livingroom & my big dog lies on them both equaly happy. The one in the sittingroom is the most comfortable but it doesnt stop him from using the one in the bedroom on a night because he likes to be in the room with me,Ive had a lot of dogs over the years & most of my dogs have acted the same. They like to be with their owner. If you have a preference to where you want the dog to sleep then you train it to sleep in that place. It depends on what you want & the size of the dog.(My small dog was allowed on the bed when i was on my own coz im a softy, lol).Good luck!

No. If you put your puppy in the same room as you at night, the whining will start. If he/she can see or hear you they will whine until you let them out. You can get another crate and put it in a room close to yours but if there is a person sleeping in tthe same room as the puppy that person will get no sleep.
