Yes, I have and it's appropriate whenever you want it to be.
You don't allow people to just walk into your home at will whether they are friends or strangers, do you?
The same thing applies with the phone...you decide when a caller is intruding on your privacy.

I have, but only once those calling from a specific number have made a nuisance of themselves and usually only if it's a stranger, never if it's just an ex-friend or someone I don't particularly like. When I got a new number, someone who didn't speak English kept calling me, so they didn't understand when I said that they had the wrong number, so I blocked that. I've also blocked the numbers of kids that prank called me a lot and a guy that sort of stalked me once (ie called to ask me out about thirty times in one week.)

it is appropriate to block someone number because they are annoying such as sales or telemarketing call, they always block their number. I currently use at&t services and apply the feature anonymous call rejection which means if they did not show their number when they call, my phone will not ring. The reason I did this because my phone always ring with those calls. You should ask your phone company for this feature. it helps

I just had to do it to my friend. She has a bad habit of calling me then clicking over to her other line. If I had a home phone, this would not be to bad, but since I rely only on my cell, this tends to burn up my minutes. last year, in one month she called me 752 times, for a total of 1600+ minutes. After I got that bill I blocked her number.

Yes I have, but only after the person has made a nuisance of themselves. I have caller ID on all my phones now, so I can pick and choose who I speak too, helps weed out those telemarketers and call centres.

If they keep calling and won't say anything would be an approriate time to block. If you just don't want to have any contact from that person block them.

I once blocked an ex-girlfriend's phone number ... let's just say she was rather territorial and I wanted and needed my space.
