I don't know about psychic abilities, but I guess you could take an empirical approach and do a series of tests to see what does and/or doesn't work. If you get anything that seems promising, that tells you where to concentrate your efforts.
Being more spiritual is easy and allows for as much creativity as your theism or atheism allows.
Meditating is a great way to start.
