1) Suggest that they get their hearing tested
2) Buy ear plugs

Hi - I'm an Audiologist.

Sorry if that seems over-simplified, but if their television set(s) are so loud that you can't concentrate on your schoolwork, they may have hearing difficulties.

Also, you do use the plural "TVs" so perhaps they turn their sets up so loud trying to drown out the noise of the other if they are watching two different programs.

In my opinion, as a parent, your schoolwork should be a top priority; but if they are ignoring you, all you really can do is to find ways to cope. That is why I suggest buying earplugs. There are many different kinds available at drug stores, and they're not too expensive.

Other options are to stay after school and do homework there if you have a way of getting home, such as a late bus. Or could you go study with a friend at their house?

Many people can study with noise. My son will have music playing and or the TV on while he studies - he doesn't like when it's too quiet. I am like you though, and I get too distracted by noises. If you go to college, this can be a really big challenge when you have roommate(s) and lots of activity around your residence.

Sometimes I would get up early to study, rather than staying up late -- of course it's difficult to sleep when there's noise too!

I had the same dilemma a few years back with my Grandpa. I bought a separate remote control. Then occasionally I would either press the MUTE button or MAX OUT the volume, without them seeing /knowing. He gets pissed and freaks out everytime!! =) You should have seen the look on his face =)

If you keep asking them & it does no good, I can only suggest you go to another room. Sorry!
