It's very well advising a regular trim and not stating 'how' regular!

Hairdressers advise every six weeks - and then cut off 2 inches as the standard "trim" - which is way more than the amount anyones hair grows in six weeks! They have a vested interest of course.

If you want to grow your hair, have it trimmed every 12 weeks and specify that you only want a centimetre or two cut off, depending on your speed of growth.

There is nothing that fixes split ends. There are products which very temporarily "glue" the ends together. Waste of money and causes longer term damage.

If you have split ends, they will continue to slowly split the hair shaft from bottom up, regardless of these synthetic glues.

Best bet is have a seriously good trim to get rid of all of the split ends in one go, and happily start growing again, knowing that your hair will grow quicklier (because the split ends aren't continually breaking off and causing further damage to the healthy shaft)

Also, a very important factor, is that an incredibly sharp pair of professional hair scissors are used whilst trimming. Blunt scissors just rip the ends of the hair off, which ultimately starts the split ends circle off all over again.

Other things to consider are - don't use anything that dries your hair out, has alcohol in it, or leaves a nasty residue.

Always wash in lukewarm water and give the final rinse in cold wate. Cold water closes up the miniscule cuticles of the hairshaft, which makes your hairshaft inherently stronger.

Don't comb or brush when wet, unless you do it very gently and patiently from bottom to top. Wet hair is very elastic and will be more prone to splitting and snapping.

If you have to blow dry, do it on the coolest setting.

You'll get lovely strong shiny hair if you follow that list of instructions :P

PS
Neutrogena hair products are my recommendation and I get lots of compliments and questions about how I've got such shiny hair :P

OMG sorry this post is so long!

It's always important to take care of your hair by

NOT washing your hair with HOT or very warm water,
To use conditioner after shampoo(Pantene,Body Shop products),
To oil your hair at least once a week (olive oil),
To get your hair ends trimmed at least once in two months.

All the best & take care!

Well, if you do not like getting your hair trimmed like me, then i would really recommend to shower and use a conditioner. Also, instead of blow drying, let your hair air-dry and then iron or curl it or do whatever you want. I would recommend using the older versions of Herbal Essences. They clean and condition and smell really great.
