We have been at fort polk for five years now and the housing on north fort is really nice and they have built some new housing for lower enlisted that opens at the end of the month. I would try to stay away from the south fort housing as it is old, but picerne has put some money into fixing them so they may be ok. Not all housing of post is great. It greatly depends on the areas you are looking.

Fort Polk is widely regarded as the model for "Beetle Bailey"'s Camp Swampy. Ruston is more a village than a city, but if you have transportation to go off base you may find that you like the area. There's plenty to do in Shreveport/Bossier City, Natchitoches has French colonial charm without New Orleans sleaziness, New Orleans is close enough for a weekend getaway, And Louisiana calls itself "Sportsman's Paradise" for a reason.

Check with them, they should have a website to see them. I looked at my son's & his wife's on an Army website. When I went to see my granddaughters recently the pictures I saw were just like his place. Check all the one's available. His is really nice about 2200 sq ft. fenced back yard & garage. He had other choices not as nice.
