fawns have 2 coats and I have been told they shed like mad. but I don't know quite what to expect with a black. and also do they always need a coat when they go out in the cold given they haven't got as much fur? will they suffer cold as much as me?

Pugs of any color shed every day of their lives. The blacks have the same coat as the fawns, but they should have a coat on if it is really cold outside.

you know why dogs shed alot because the owneres doesnt even brush them every day plus the dogs do need be brushing more often so that they can have neat and soft coats all day. no i dont think pugs always sheds if you dont even brush them very well or even have them dried after they had a bath .

probably shed a normal amount, but it seems more because it is black and more noticable. Incidently, Short haired dogs often shed more than longer haired dogs, most long haired breeds tend to hang on to their hairs for longer, while short hairs are replaced more quickly. therefore shed more.
