Why is he not romantic?

I have been with him several times but he's really not romantic. But from the first time, I know that he's always as he is now. Even on my birthday, he just took me to a shop and ask me to choose myself because he doesn't want to give gifts that I don't like. Even on Valentine, he doesn't even remember. Despite of those, he helps me a lot and sometimes he seems so care about me but he never told me so.

I hear you! He is probably self conscious or shy! try asking him why? Break the barrier!
