It's a sad state of our sociey when we treat our own friends worse than a perect stranger or someone we don't like. I deal with issues of bullying at my school and the most common response is "I was just joking". How can a statement like "wow are you fat" be joking????????? Some people really have no clue how to be a friend, some do it out of jealousy and insecurity, and some really are malicious. I had a friend who cut down every guy I dated (he's ugly, he's dorky, he has a bad job...) and it always made me feel bad. Finally, it hit me one night, in all the years we'd been friends, she had lots of one night stands, but no boyfriends (she was quite homely with huge boobs), and I always had a boyfriend. She was jealous and when I called her on it, she freaked. We never spoke again! Don't put up with people who treat you like that! You will find true friends who love, respect, and cherish you, but it takes some time for that to develop. Dump the losers just as you would a bad boyfriend!

Because we are afraid of growing too close to people. If we really let somebody in, we might get hurt. So it's easier just to hurt someone else in a million little ways before they can get you in a big way. The prophecy becomes self-fulfilling when the friend no longer wants to associate, and we can say "Ya see! Everybody leaves me in the end anyway" and we decide we may as well continue building that wall around ourselves.

It's a strange phenomenon, but a lot of people will insult people (in a friendly, kidding way) instead of compliment them when they really like that person. For me, personally I would never kiddingly insult a person I don't like a lot.

Compliments are given usually only when they do something really good or you feel sorry for them it seems. It's kinda rediculous but thats why friendship is so cool you can just make fun of eachother as a joke and they don't care. It's not the same if you're enemies obviously.

because friends are allowed to insult each other. you wouldn't insult a total stranger.
