It was for me. But that does not mean it is for you. Any swollen lymph nodes nearby? [i.e. base of neck] Stay on top of your doctors until you get a good answer. I started out with a lump in my throat - couldn't swallow it; couldn't spit it out. Went to ENT and Gastro. Surgeon was all set to remove my thyroid when, oh by the way, it was Lymphoma. He found that out by doing a fine needle aspiration [biopsy] of a lymph node at the base of my neck. Blood tests, barium swallow, thyroid uptake scan, all showed nothing. Gastro tried to scope but could not get the scope down my throat - the tumor had grown and was obstructing my throat [he's the one who sent me to a Surgeon].
I'm not trying to scare you, there are many things it could be. But, the fact is, you need to know for sure.
Here's a website, if you think it may be Lymphoma:

Best wishes

You are getting the runaround. I've seen this happen before, where the doctors don't pay enough attention until the cancer is very serious, and then they can make money from you or your insurance company. The only problem is that it is hard on YOU.
Medicine is a $1.1 trillion a year business in this country, and the system is set up to suck the wealth and life out of the American public. Only 1 in 3 people with cancer live for 5 years after diagnosis, and that number hasn't changed significantly in the last 30 years, despite many billions being spent of 'research' every year.
I have cancer now. I'm disgusted with the system, and have turned to alternative medicine since my doctors have told me there is no hope. Bitter? Yes, I am--and my anger has motivated me to learn about repressed natural methods of disease control.
You are just starting in the meat grinder right now, and I strongly urge you to look for an answer besides artificial drugs, surgery and radiation. Here are some books I have read from cover to cover, that are now helping me to survive way beyond my doctors' grim predictions--
"The Cure for All Cancers"
"A Cancer Therapy"
"Oxygen Therapies"
"Hydrogen Peroxide--Medical Miracle"
"The Natural Cure for Cancer--Germanium"
"Killing Cancer"
"Natural Cures 'They' Don't Want You to Know About"
There are many other good books about surviving this disease, and you should know about this option, even if you choose to go the traditional route with it's abysmal prognosis. Best of luck.

Feeling somthing is different from seeing something. There is a condition known as Globus Hystericus in which a patient feels as if there is something in the throat which does not go down even when he tries to swallow. This a psychological condition and can be treated easily by doctor. If the lump can be seen physically then it should be taken out for biopsy and a definitive diagnosis for the type of lump cancer or non cancer be eatablished. Consult a Otolaryngologist.

Wait, the ultra sound isn't showing anything? Does it *feel* like a lump or is there actually one there?
Well I had a "lump" in my throat and it was caused by acid reflux washing up into my esophagus which is easily cured with Nexium. (called vocal cord dysfunction)
I was also tested for thyroid... came bac neg. Hope this helps!
If all else fails go to an ears nose throat specialist and get scoped. (but make sure they numb your throat)
Anxiety can also cause a lump feeling in your throat.

i am dealing with a similar situation now and have had 3 surgerys removing a lump (tumor) in my lower esophogus over the past 3 months ..The surgeon is doing yet another scope in March to remove hopefully the last piece and thank god every time the cells have been benine
Which means they are not cancer
However not treated these can produce cancer cells as they grow
I am 31 years old and have had another tumor removed that was growing on the back of my tonsil this was also benine(maybe that is not how you spell that)
Nexium can be taken to heal your throat and to try and shrink this

You can still have cancer. ultrasound is not enough. Gather all your findings together and get a new doctor. An oncologist/ENT
