First, decide what style appeals to you - modern, cottage, country, French country, etc. When you decide on a style you like look at magazines, go to the library and check out decorating books, watch the decorating shows on T.V. Behr paint has a site where you can "try out" colors for different rooms. The most important thing is to be true to yourself. Surround yourself with the things you love.

Clear out everything you don't need..don't pack rat. Take it down to the basics and get organized first.

Start with paint on the walls, then start with your focal points such as the tv, the bed and the rest will flow.

My favorite thing to do to get ideas is to go to new homes for sale and tour. They have great decorating ideas.

You can also take a photo album and cut out pics of your favorite themes or ideas and save them in the album until you gather your thoughts on what you want to do for each room.

Light plates are a great way of adding the finishing touches.

An amazing artist who does custom work as well.
And prices are truly affordable, considering how good her work is.
Best of luck...but most importantly, have fun and don't rush into it. It is the climb, not the actual finish that gives pleasure.

Quality not quantity. Every thing you purchase should be thought out and buy the best you can afford. You might need to purchase 3 sofas for your living room but if they don't hold up to normal wear and tare you might as well roll down your window and let your money blow away. You would be wiser to purchase 1 nice couch and a love seat that hold up and add as you can afford to Consider this with every purchase you make..

surf the web hgtv.com attend demos at home depot and when in doubt consult a interior designer or browse catalogs and make notes of things you like and dislike. this will help if you decide to go with an onterior designer. if you want one cheap look up a design school or an art institute. enjoy your new house!!
