You need to hit as many as you can, before you buy. Have some of the company reps fit you. That is the only way to get the best club for your swing. You can go to company web pages to find demo days in your area.

I would go to a reputable club maker and have them analyze your swing and take some measurements. They can custom make a set of clubs for you for around $300 - include a driver and a 3 wood for an additional $250

Have a set of custom irons made. You can spend anywhere from 250 and up. You may not get the name brand, but they're going to be the best for your swing and speed.

like law said Mizzunos are great irons, i demoed them and loved them, but went with the CG2's and don't regret my choice, by far best feel irons i have ever played, and they get great distance too. For less than six hundred you might want to find some good used clubs.

i would think your best bet would be to go to your local golf shop and test out some clubs in your budget range and decide what feels best and it helps to get input from the guys at the shop on what they think would be good for you.
