the dots are 3 to a row and there are three rows forming square.

Go outside the "square" formed by the dots. It's hard to explain it more clearly without a picture. Draw a long vertical line on the left side through 1, 4, 7. Then draw a diagonal up through dots 8, 6. Turn this line to the left and go through 3, 2, 1. Finally, draw diagonally through 1, 5, 9.

Draw a vertical line on the left through 1, 4 and 7. go right from 7 to ,8 and 9. go vertical from 9 to 6 and 3. go left from 3 to 2 to 1. You will have a square with a dot in the center. 1,4 7 = 3 dots 7, 8, 9 =3 dots 9, 6, 3 = 3 dots 3, 2, 1 =3 dots nine dots are connected
