I walked past his office and overheard him use a bunch of profanity. He's supposed to be a professional. Should I find a new doctor?

Professionals cuss as often as layman. I would say no-do not ditch him. He knows how to vent and not take it out on the patient. My Mother was the world's best cuss er. Very fluent with her words. We at least knew where she stood. LOL! She was a wonderful lady inspiring many. Words are words unless used against you. Then it is different.

I'm sorry, but that is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. i've been around a lot of doctors, and I have nothing but respect for them. They are put under a TON of pressure, sacrafice family life.... I wouldn't find a new doctor. You have no idea what prompted this. What if his wife got into a car accident or something and he couldn't go take care of her because he had patients lined up all afternoon? I mean, obviously that's a big what if, but come on. You don't know what the situation is. These are people who are running around like mad to keep you healthy, sacraficing their lives for you. This has nothing to do with his ability to practice medicine. He's a doctor, not a saint.

Um no.. just because he uses profanity does not mean he is incompetent. He's human and well, a lot of them use some choice language. Being a doctor is extremely stressful. If he is not cussing AT you or degrading you in any manner then I don't see finding a new doctor is necessary.

Thats a toughie, If he has always been a good doctor to you so far and other than this cursing thing you have had no complaints then why worry? Unless there are other incidences that you are also concerned about, otherwise chalk it up to him just being human and got caught expressing his frustration about something.

sounds to me like you may have found one of the good doctors.
depending on what he was wound up about he may be a great caring doctor . i much prefer a doctor who sees the person .

well that depends. dirst of all was he with a patient? or was he in his office with his nurses? you have to remember we are all human. we make mistakes. now if he was talking like that a patient by all means find a new doctor. but if its his nurses heck it might not even effect them. good luck

At the worst, he didn't use the best judgment. His conversation (cursing or not) should've been behind closed doors.

What does it matter if he DOES curse? Is he competent? Do you trust him? That's what's really important.

no unless you feel uncomfortable around him or some other valid reason, everyone gets pissed off once in a while and for some cursing relieves a little stress

Well, my Mom was seizing and her doctor said "***** we're out of oxygen." She found a new doctor and a lawyer.

Otherwise, if it isn't connected with signs of unprofessional behavior, I'd say "Heck no!"
