I woke up this morning and I fliped the covers over to get up and ready for school, and I noticed on my Doberman, Hammer, a Large lump on his back. And it didnt bother him becuase he was still sleeping on my bed. But i touched it and could put my hand around it comfortably ( im 15, so my hand isnt that big, roughly the width side of the keyboard long) and put a little pressure on it, and it hurt him. He turned around and moved my hand with his nose. I called my mom and she came over and looked at it, and she didnt know what it was either. Well when i got home from school I took a look at it and noticed it was a bit smaller and It looked like a long lump the size of a squished lemon, and on top, a smaller longish lump the size of a peanut And i guess some of it spread and it went toward his lower stomach, right below it and now its all jiggley and saggy. like theres water in it. . She told me she had iced it and it went down a little, but it went back up, and got a little bit bigger but i dont know what it is? I think either a welt, bite, or My most WORST fear, a tumor. It wasent like that yesterday? I did make an appointment tomorrow at 8, but im scared? what do u think it is? Also, If this helps, saterday, He knocked into the coffee table and my moms vase which weighes about 8-9 puonds fell right in the area where the lump is. but he didnt really yelp? and if it it was the vase, Why would that lump appear now? Also im going to give him a bath, and ice ithe lump, do you think that would help? also im going to try ebisons salt, would it work? Please help me. Its hard to breathe to even think its a tumor, im really scared. I love him so much, he sleeps eats and plays with me 24/7. And if it is a tumor, what would happen?

It sounds to me like it's a hematoma which is just a collection of blood under the tissue. It's a bad bruise. What a bruise really is, is trauma causing a blood vessel to break. This is what causes the pain, discoloration of the skin and sometimes swelling after you bang yourself hard. The blood leaves the vessel and when it sits under the tissue it causes the swelling, like what's on your dogs back. The swelling and inflammation causes the pain. Icing it was good, that's the first thing to do. A firm bandage would have prevented some swelling, but that probably wouldn't have gone over well. You can probably try and put some heat on it after the 1st 48hrs. I don't think you have any need to worry. If it was a tumor, it would be hard and unmovable. I have a dobie too. She 12wks now. Email me and let me know how your vet visit goes. If you're still nervous, google bruises and hematomas. It's nothing to worry about. Good Luck!

It could be a lump from the vase, or it could be a tumor that you haven't noticed before. Before you completely panic - many dogs get lumps as they get older, my old lab has a growth the size of a softball on her tummy. But, not all of them are cancer nor do all of them require treatment. You have an appointment with the vet which is the way to go. Don't immediately jump to the worst conclusion..it may be nothing at all.

If it is simply a swelling from an injury icing it and soaking it will make it go down. If it is a tumor it will not help. Try to relax and stay calm so your dog won't sense panic. Get to the vet and get some samples taken and then do what ever your vet recommends.

i would go to the vet straight away, and get it checked out. it most probably is the vase and it can take a few days to show up, try and not touch it so much or put pressure on it as this could make it worse, see what the vet says he will do a scan on your dog if it is a tumour, you might have spotted it early enough that it wont be that bad usually your dog would become run down and really saw if it is a tumour...

My dobe had lumps and bumps all over him, but he was old, maybe its from the vase , a tumor or he could have got bitten by a spider or something, i would take him to the vet just to be on the safe side.

not sure, but I have two Cocker Spaniels and one died last year after developing multiple tumors (large and small bumps everywhere). My other one is now getting them everywhere too and that's just life. Hopefully your dog is ok. I do know my dog who passed last year- he had the 'bumps' on his back for as long as we had him (10 yrs) Most of his life, they didn't effect him. Best wishes to you and your dog

it doesn't sound like a tumor. They don't just pop up. Sounds like a boil. I would take him to the vet a.s.a.p (as soon as possible). Hope he gets better.

Please take him to the vet. It could be serious.
I found a lump on my English Bulldog's neck a while ago, we took him to the vet...turns out he has skin cancer. He is now on steroid therapy.

Don't waste any time, take your dog to the vet ASAP!
