ok i bought headers for my 72 dodge charger and it's to big and not enough room for it? my question is my dad told me to put back the stock manifold and to put side pipes and cut off the muffler and that would make my car sound loud. is this true and also what could i do to make my car sound loud?

the answer above is correct- you will need to lift the engine to get the headers mounted to the engine from underneath. I assume the the headers you purchased came with directions - right?
I have had a number of headers over the years - Hookers are the ones that fit the best.
All that said - if you have a small block engine, the headers are worth it - if you have a big block engine the stock exhaust manifolds flow pretty well, unless your engine is really modified.

Honest there used to be a book on dodge performance.
the back pages had a listed of Dodge part numbers for parts that were the best for each engine.
the Honest truth is most of the time unlike chevies and fords the Dodge exhaust manifold is the best.
but this is what you can do take the headers bolt them back on run 2 inch to 3 inch duel pipes out to the back of the charger. get 2 turbo mufflers and you'll be good.
My 74 Charger SE (400) I put on the car 2 cherry bombs. with duel exhaust. This however I was commanded in the army not to start the car up during duty hours. It was just to loud. Honest it sounded like thunder, and well the only thing it did not pass was the gas pump.

It really just depends on where you're sitting in Heinz field. But wearing Broncos gear won't get you too many cat calls. Usually in the upper seating area on the opposite side of the Heinz Ketchup End Zone is a no fly zone for any Browns, Ravens, Raiders and opposing team jersey wearers. I live in the Burgh but I'm a HUGE Chargers fan. I'll letcha know what I think once I see how the stillers offensive line progresses. LT and Co. have their work cut out for them, Polamalu is looking like this years defensive player of the year. I'm just not sure Pitt has enough offense at this point. Prediction: 20-16 Chargers

Don't put sidepipes on a 72 charger!, thats hillbillish! , put a complete 21/2" dual exhaust system on it with a set of flowmaster super 40 mufflers or if you want it louder yet use glass pack mufflers such as cherry bombs.

Disconnect the engine mounts and jack up the engine. You can do this one at a time if you only have a good jack, or both at the same time if you have a hoist. If I remember correctly (I haven't done this in years) you can also jack the car up REALLY high and slide them in from underneath.
