I am a 14 year old girl, and I remember this happening when I was like... 10, also. Recently (at times when I am being calm) I feel like I am out of breath and when I take in deep breaths I feel like I can't fill my lungs all the way. When I finially do, it is a relief. I get dizzy breathing so hard when this... happens. I am in shape, I exersize, and I don't smoke cigeretts. Could this be asthma (but doesn't asthma show up eirlier than this?) or maybe stress related?

You sound like you are beginning to have mild anxiety attacks. The factor you are sitting, doing nothing, means your mind may be wondering to issues you are not dealing with and as it does, it brings about mild anxiety.
Deal with all issues you tend to avoid.
Try this breathing technique and see if it works, becuase it should relax your breathing and take away that feeling of not being able to get enough air. Do this cycle ten times the minute your feel the feeling beginning to come on.
This breathing technique will not solve your anxiety, only dealing with what your are avoiding or at least not dealing well with will, but it can help you feel better and keep your anxiety from getting out of control.
Sit up straight, breath in through your nose, not your mouth. Breath in slowly and deeply; then breath out slowly through your mouth, not fast. Do this about ten times. It helps properly oxygenate you and it will tell the muslces in your body to relax and it cuts anxiety attacks short.
Do not gulp for air, that can only lead to hyperventalation.
Your symptoms are absolutely not the symptoms of Asthma.
Hope the breathing technique works, remember breath in slowly through your nose as deeply as you can, then SLOWLY out through your mouth.
TAKE CARE!

Kraemondo:
Stress can indeed be the cause as can panic attacks. But you may want to take note of when IT happens. Are you allergic to anything particular, like pollens cats, dogs, guinea pigs etc. Some animal dander( like dandruff) can create an asthmatic type response. Asthma is certainly a possibility and some can get it much later in life as a result of exposure to pollens etc. You need as i said to not when and where it happens and then take that information to your Doctor. he can do some simple tests to check out the causes and treat you appropriately

It very well could be asthma. My niece didnt develop asthma until she was 10. Make sure to tell your parents and get checked out at the doctors. A good sign of asthma is if it gets worse during certain things, like when its cold out, when you exersize, things like that

This is most likely growing pains, it should only happen once in a while, if it occurs often, as in more then twice a day for a few days you should talk to your parents or a doctor.

It may be asthma or some other sort of pulmonary or lung disease.
See your doctor immediately. Don't feel embarassed or guilty, even world class athletes come down with some wacky stuff.
