I try to keep him in because I think it is too cold, except I always have my neighbors kids knocking on my door wanting my son to come out, I mean these kids are out in cold, heat, rain, snow. it drives me nuts because then my son thinks I am mean, because the other kids are allowed out. sometimes I think what the heck is wrong with these mothers??? maybe I am too over protective!

How cold is the weather and how old are the kids?

I grew up in Russia and I played outside every day, but my mom taught us how to be concious of the frost. We didn't get to play when it was below -30 Celcius. This is when they cancelled school, and mom said if it's too cold for school it is too cold for play. Seriously, it is too easy to get skin damage (frost bite) when it is that cold. My mom didn't let us play longer that 1 hour when it was below -10 and also she didn't let us run or skii when it was colder than -10 because she thought we start breathing throung the mough and that's not safe when it's too cold. Hehe, if she didn't let us go outside when it was cold we'd have to stay inside 7 months out of 12 from October to April.

If it is too cold I don't let her go out at all. But if it's like 25 or more then I usually let her go out for about 1/2 hour at time. She's also very bundled up. But I remember when I was kid and being outside for a lot longer than that and colder than that too.

They go out a few times a day BUT they are only aloud out for 10-15 minutes before they have to come in and warm up. It is just too cold for much longer then that right now in NY!

We get outside every single day...! We may not stay for long, but we do we get out ;) I think it's healthy for your body to be in sync with the natural seasons and that's more easily accomplished when you're exposed daily to the outdoors. There's evidently an old Norwegian proverb: "There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothing."

i have a 22 month old and we dont go out too often its soo hard to get all the winter stuff on for him to want to come in 5 min. later. but it really depends on how cold. sometimes we are inside for a few days cause its just way too cold, but usually we go outside every other day. its kinda funny he'll look outside and see the snow and go eww burr.

Almost every day. We live in Germany and it's very common for people to take their children outside in any kind of weather. They believe that it helps to boost their immune system and help them to adjust to all climate changes. I know my little ones are healthy and they're outside all the time.

My son was playing out in the snow today for about a hour and its like 10 degrees out. But he was dressed warmly. 2 hats, scarf, boots, socks, 2 pants plus snow pants. t-shirt, long sleeve, shirt, sweater, winter coat, and 2 pairs of gloves. BTW, he is 4 yrs old. I dressed up my daughter to go out to she is 23 months old but she didn't want anything to do with the snow. every time she fell she cried so I took her in.

I don't let my daughter go outside when it's cold. IN the summer we go out in the am and late evening.

not much. We just had a -30 cold spell and I didn't let her even check the mail (the wind was very bad)... to much risk for frost bite
