At first I thought that it meant that God will comfort those who are mourning. But then my teacher said that it meant that God wants us to be moved. I forgot my notebook which had the rest of what he said it meant. What does God want us to be moved by?

Blessed are they who weap and mourn, for they shall be comforted.

I can see one interpretation that God wants us to be open to the human experience. After all, when Lazarus died, Jesus wept. We are to be empathetic to others. Only then can we really love our fellow man as we love ourselves.

The Second Beatitude

The "mourning" in the Third Beatitude in Luke vi, 25 opposed to laughter and similar frivolous worldly joy. These motives of mourning are not to be drawn from the miseries of a life of poverty, abjection, and subjection, which are the very blessings of verse 3, but rather from those miseries from which the pious man is suffering in himself and in others, and most of all the tremendous might of evil throughout the world. To such mourners the Lord Jesus carries the comfort of the heavenly kindgom, "the consolation of Israel" expressed in Luke 2:25, as foretold by the prophets.

The injustices of this life leave many mourning, but this promise of comfort will be fulfilled by Jesus who is the fulfillment of all the promises of God.

Rom 8:22
the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.

8:18
the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.

19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.

I do not have a concordance, but I would say your teacher is way off. I think you had it right. When we mourn God is there to lift us up and see us through that rough time. We likewise will help those who are going through times of grief.

Maybe God wants us to be moved and express that grief. Also he wishes us to move and help those who grieve.

Without the rest of your notes I chalk it up to your teacher as being over creative and possibly irresponsible, but again without notes it is hard to be sure.

Here 's what I think:
It has been said there will be no tears in Heaven.
God is the Father of all comfort - and His true believers and followers of His Son, Jesus Christ, will be with Him for all eternity - and they will no longer mourn!

Apathy is bad. Your teacher doesn't want you to be one of those people that hear about murder and go " ho-hum. Another day on planet earth."

good luck with that.
