Why do religious people have such a problem with Atheists? I am one, and I don't appreciate people telling me that I'm a horrible person because I don't believe in God. So what? I'm an individual, and, NO, I don't believe in God or a higher power. Can someone tell me why it matters?

They love us so much that they don't want us to suffer forever in fiery damnation. That's why they show us as much hatred as humanly possible, judge us in our actions, call us names, and scream persecution when we respond to their "loving comments".

Some people need religion to be happy, and they can't accept that some us can be free-willed enough to be happy on our own.

It shouldn't matter that your an atheist. Part of the problem is that people find themselves so caught up in their own beliefs that they don't have any tolerance for different religious, or nonreligious groups. I grew up catholic and when my parents converted to Baptist I found that a lot of people there had some issues with the beliefs that I came into the church with. I have no issue with atheists even though I do believe in God. I think that since people have free will they have the right to choose what they believe in.

i dont know what is up peoples butts these days but it must be sideways lol :) its an opinion but some belive so strongly that he or she is real and hate anyone who does not. I for one and not a christian nor athiest. Well sorta. SOme days i believe other days i dont give a care. If someone says that your a horrible person say "if im going to hell the im taking you with me" or something like that. Or just walk away. these people have no right to talk to you that way.

Religion makes people fearful, and fear makes them angry, and anger makes them say things they shouldn't. So don't be too hard on them, but try to understand where they're coming from.

Have you ever read the Hans Christian Andersen story "The Emperor's New Clothes"? It takes one voice -- a child's voice, at that -- to make the proud and powerful Emperor look like the naked fool he really is.

Your unbelief matters because it takes just one unbeliever to destroy religion. Think about it. And don't get paranoid, but do take care -- this really does matter to a great many people, and you're just one person.

Because they think that you're going to hell and they don't understand the freedom that comes with no religion. They are used to having the guidelines that come with their religion. There are also some people (I know many) who are raised to think atheists are evil and they will drag you down to hell with them. I get called a horrible person all the time.

It doesn't, but if you are going to have a thin skin this is not a good place to hang out. I don't feel good about it if I don't get at least 1 hate mail for every couple of hours here.

They don't understand that which is different. They don't allow you to speak because they fear they might believe you. The true definition of faith = fear of god.

I don't believe in anything and I think that Atheists(pardon me) are totally contradictory of themselves. Believing in not believing, PAH, totally against what you think!
