I'm saving to buy a camcorder, and I need help deciding which one is best for me. The only type I've ever seen is the old VHS type of camcorder my dad used. Can someone explain to me what these types are: mini-dvd, dvd, digital? And what are good brands if I want a high-quality, basic camcorder that will last but doesn't have a whole lot of special features?

It relies upon on his images aspect. DSLR are more beneficial stepped forward. The lenses would properly get replaced, you are able to concentration manually, and some different issues. that is fairly tremendous for the amatuer photographer or the pro photographer (more beneficial wedding ceremony photographers are going digital). it is a marvelous funding if he's fairly into images. commonplace digital cameras are tremendous for those no longer so digital camera savvy. maximum are aspect and shoot yet furnish some stepped forward ideas (yet very simplified). There are oftentimes constrained buttons and purposes. again, it is a more beneficial advantageous decision if he's not any longer digital camera savvy.

The simple anser would be canon hv10 or hv20. Just put in Auto mode and shoot , and you get images almost like a pro.
Sony HC3, hc5 or hc7 will also be ok.
