Where does it come from for you?

Why does one piece of music make you react in a visceral way, while others bore you to tears?

Again...more then just from God please.

For me, I tend to react to a song or piece of artwork when the artist can make me feel exactly what they were feeling at that given point in time, like how well they convey emotion through their art. If the artist succeeds in actually putting me in their place for a moment. It doesn't matter how beautiful it is to the eyes or to their ears, if I don't feel that it was created out of pure feeling, it doesn't usually keep my interest.

And then, sometimes, its not the artist's mood -- its mine. If I see or hear something that just seems to capture my feelings at the time, I'll probably be a big fan of it for life -- regardless of what the artist intended for it to mean.

~And yes, someone actually thought of you.~

I think that certain things remind us of something else, whatever that something else may be, an old flame, highschool, puppies, whatnots, etc.

I react to things I consider to be tastefully done and pleasing to the senses. Not every person will like the same things. I do not think it is an issue for higher power, it's personal, soulful.
