He took money my insurance company had given me(500$) when i had totaled my car, the insurance company gave me this money beacause i payed to much for my car, now i come to find out that my dad had used this 500$ for his own personal use. The check was in my name, but it had "held it" to "keep it safe." I am 17 and still trying to get another car but it is hard when you cant get someone to sign or co-sign with you, although i do have a job, that $500 plus my tax money was going to be a 1000$ down payment on a new car.

since it is less than a 1000 dollars the best you can do is take him before a small claims court or if not then get in touch with the insurance company that issued the check in your name and let them take him to court for forgery I think he will come up with your 500 unless he wants to go to court for fraud

Just tell him to give it back so you can buy a car, if he says no then tell him well I will be needing a ride to work everyday till I save enough for a car and you will have to take me, or let me use your car. Probably won't work if he was cheap enough to take your money but it is worth a try, also if he signed your check with your name, that is against the law turn him in, he can't be that good of a dad if he stole from his own kid. Move out the second you turn 18.

how did he get to cash it, if it was in your name. You could go to the bank and make a stink about it. Or you could make sure you open a bank account and deposit your money, and don't tell your dad you did that. You could get him in a lot of trouble, for cashing a check that was not his, or were you on him insurance.I'm sure you really don't want to take legal action, so just let it go, and protect yourself in the future.Tell him how you feel, and that you feel he should help you get a car, that he owes that much to you.

i know it is hurtful that someone takes your money deceitfully especially if it is your father. don't let $500 come between you and your dad. speak to him that the money is really yours or speak to your mother about it, but don't break up your relationship with your father over money. its not worth it. dont bother with this sueing business- im not a rich guy myself but i would not sell my family for $500 - or for any amount for that matter

besides money comes and goes, but you will have only one father

well this all depends, when do u turn 18? most lawsuits can be filed within one year of the incident. so u may wana consider suing him when ur that age. also, maybe u shud call a local lawyer willing to give free advice to u. all n all, good luck.

Report the check stolen to the police. If he forged your name, that will be added to the charges.
