I got my computer confiscated from the COPS and they have had it for like 4 weeks. How long do they usually take to do the investigation through the computer??

Have you ever gone through this type of situation??

Ask them for some money so they can keep it and then you can go buy new one.

If they have taken it and have a forensic analyst go through it, it could take a while. It is absolutely amasing to see what the can recover out of your computer no matter how many times you have erased or deleted a file, or reformated your hard drive. It's like a fat girlfriend from college who just wont go away.
I would guess atleast 3 to 6 months, if evidence of a crime is found then it will be several years.

I've taken many computers before in my investigations. It can take months and sometimes years.

Many police departments don't have the resources like their larger counterparts. In my pd's case we only have 1 maybe 2 people who are qualified to do a forensic exam on a computer.

And if there is anything illegal on it. Don't bother asking for it. You won't get it back.

It doesn't look like your hurting too bad without it or you wouldn't be posting now.
