I've done both straight cash and check. Some people prefer check cause they don't want to run the risk of the receipients losing it in the process and for "documentation" purpose.

Are both acceptable? One perferred more than the other?

i would go with a check. that way if someone tries to steal cards out of a wedding card box, they can't cash the checks and they wouldn't have cash to steal. one of my friends had graduation cards stolen and the person probably made off with over $1000 cash. so don't do cash or gift certificates, especially in large amounts of money. if you're mailing it instead of going to the wedding then i would go with a check also. that way it can't be lost in the mail or misplaced or anything. and if you see the check was never cashed you could always ask the couple about it.

For more finacial secure couples, I would give a check. For couple who don't have a lot of money, I would suggest giving them cash. Also if they are going on a honeymoon, I would give cash so they don't have to take the extra time to go by the bank and get it cashed etc.. If you are mailing it i would def. use a check so it doesn't get stolen. If you do give straight cash, why not do it creativly such as a money tree, or use orgami to make a carton of money fortune cookies :)

Both are acceptable but should be enclosed in an envelope so that the couple knows it came from you can so they can send you a thank you card. I am not sure what type of documentation one would need for a monetary gift (you cant claim it on your taxes after all!) but i think that either is fine. Enclose it in a card.

Checks are harder to use in the case (god forbid) that someone steals it.

When I got married people gave us cash and check so both are nice. Have you ever thought of gift cards? Those are nice also. You cant go wrong with anything that comes in the form of MONEY.

Check is safer true, but cash I think is better if you can do it. This way they will have some extra spending money on their honeymoon.

However, neither form is considered better taste than the other. Both are equally good form.

How about a gift card somewhere that they definitely could use? Bed Bath and Beyond, Home Depot, etc.

OR

How about one of those American Express gift cards that is basically a gift card that can be used anywhere (since it's actually a "credit card" with the money on it)

Cash. Checks can be problematic if you make it out to the couple, and the bride hasn't changed her name yet or doesn't plan to at all. Some banks can be a pain about that.

preferrably check, because if it were to get stolen (happened to my brother someone broke the card box and took a bunch of the cards) it can't be used only by the bride and groom, and after they go through the cards and see certain people were there but nothing they can notify the guest

i am not trying to scare you, i only know from experience

Either one is acceptable, but check is preferred because only the bride/groom can cash it.
