Why do christians quote from it exclusively when asked a question about their faith or anything else for that matter?
If salvation is all that matters, and one doesn't need to read the bible to be saved, isn't kind of pointless to quote it?

We quote from the Bible so that people don't think that these are our personal beliefs and ideas, but so people know that they are what God is teaching us.

You only need to believe in Jesus for salvation.

Of course, you might say then why need the bible?

Because without the bible, we wouldn't know this truth.

Then salvation is dependant on the bible?

Nope. =) Look at the bible. People like Adam, Abraham, ... ..., they live in the time where the bible doesn't exist in paper form. The 'bible' exist in real person when in the form of God.

In the begining was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.

I am sorry if you don't understand. But it is alright because you can come and ask question and have your answers.

Oh, going by your logic, why you even bother to 'attack' the faith of the believers? If you don't believe, don't bother about it. Isn't kind of pointless to question and explore and 'attack' it? If something don't exist, why are you making a big deal out of it?

2 Timothy 3:15-17 (New International Version)

15and how from infancy you have known the holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

So, you see scripture has a place in the whole. Jesus gives us the free gift of salvation, but what do you do with it once you have it? You need instruction and why should you just listen to some one who says they are a Christian? The Scriptures give us training to discern these things and much more. How to act, pray, live, love and much more.

So, yes salvation is all that matters, for with out it the soul is lost. How do we know this? The Bible. But, as with all things made new you need instruction and again the Bible provides it as well as the Holy Spirit (promised in the Bible).

So they are intertwined and as with the trinity they are almost one and the same. Save that it is the Bible pointing the way to the other as a shinning beacon of hope.

Salvation has already been paid for, before the Bible was recorded. Your playing on words. You don't NEED to read it to be saved. Someone can accept Christ as they are dying and have never read a word and he would still go to heaven.

Its not pointless to quote it, its the word of God.

You are talking about apples and oranges and having a fun night with Christians it appears.

BTW, I don't quote it exclusively but it is a tool, just like non believers quote many books. I use it to confirm what I hear from God. Gods word is the gateway to understanding and how you should live. When you read it, God becomes real in your life . . . . . . 1400ad life . . . . . . . . 1600ad life . . . . . . .2007ad life.

God Bless

We need Jesus for salvation - It's all about a personal relationship with him.
The Bible is how God speaks to us - how He gives us His truth, wisdom and direction. Reading the BIble doesn't save you - but it does enlighten you.
