You realize Vietnam was lost by the media, a continual reminder of deaths erodes support. I'm sorry to tell you people, but the U.S. could lose 5,000 troops and wouldn't be a big deal because we were losing thousands a day in the Battle of the Bulge, a single battle people. President Bush is a great man and shows it by sticking to what he believes in like every person should. I'm all for free press but we need to quiet the press and things like how soldiers die and how often people die, such as once a week instead of daily, we need to finish this war not run from it like we did in Vietnam which was completely winable, let's not repeat Vietnam by running and failing the people of Iraq like we did the people of South Vietnam. Support the president, stick to our guns, and finish training the Iraqis so we win.

It's not so much the lack of support the people have for the president, but more in the way that both Republicans and Democrats in Congress can't stop fingerpointing and set their bickering anomocities towards eachother aside long enough to come up with a plan that meets the needs of our troops and give them the authority to fulfill their mission.
Bush has made himself a difficult man to support, but the juvenile back and forths in the Congress are just as bad and ineffective towards a successful ending of this war. The troops deserve better.

Politics is never rational. There are so many things behind the scene. Big business, defense contractors etc.
According to today's news, top 2% of our nation's rich own 90% of the wealth, and the bottom 50% own 1% of nation's wealth. Bush and Chaney are in bed with big business to make money. This tells you how powerful the corruption from big money can shape our nation's politics.
Guess what, with all these sad elements, we have 30% of the population blindly support this war for the sake of being conservative.
Thank God, by 09 this nightmare will be all over regardless who gets elected.

There is no comparison between Vietnam & Iraq.
We went to Vietnam to stop the communists from taking over Vietnam. We were succeeding until China entered that war. We were not prepared to take on the Chinese, they had millions of men, cared not about them & it turned into something we could not win. If the Chinese had stayed out, we would have won that war. We did not have enough men to fight the entire Chinese army. We had the weapons, but not the men. We had no choice but to leave or have our troops destroyed. The American people wanted us out; post haste. We left. But we made a great showing, our men were great fighters, they didn't have a chance; the odds were against them.

The protesters and non supporters of the Vietnam war didn't start coming out in full force until the draft was proposed. I don't think we are being set up for another Vietnam, because the Govt. has said a thousand times there will be no draft and I do believe we will be out of there in the near future.

vietnam was a war based on secrecy and deception of the american public ... so is iraq ... and i feel no need to support an illegal war of lies ... if that tarnishes the american ego and image so be it ... ur right .. he is our leader and is leading us down a dangerous path of turning the whole world against us and creating many more terrorists than he ever eliminated ... and as far as i have heard and understand the actual number of terrorists we have apprehended has been miniscule ... the people we are fighting are fighting because we are in their backyard and i dont blame them .. i would do the same thing ...

I hate to break this to you but Iraq already is Vietnam 2 minus the jungle/rice paddies and all Bush has done but not putting enough troops into Iraq in the 1st place (many of Bush's generals told him he need at least 300,000 US troops) is turn Iraq into the very terrorist training ground that he said he would never let happen. Even LBJ knew when he was licked and he left office on his own & Bush should do the country a big favor do the same.

You should take a hard look at where you are getting your erroneous information. There are really no parallels between the two situation. It's like trying to pound a square peg in a round hole.
