I have a string of stars going from my upper side (by my ribs) down my side and across to my belly where I have one big star. I'm getting it colored in this weekend.. and I didn't know that I was supposed to tip the tattoo artist the first time I went in to have my tattoo outlined.

Because I didn't tip him, do you think he'll do a worse job than he probably would have if I would have tipped him?

Becuase I didn't tip him before, how much should I tip him this time? (I paid $100.00 to have the stars outlined and he said it's going to cost me another $100.00 to have them colored in).

Please help ASAP!

It is not uncommon for clients to tip upon the completion of the work. In fact, it is perfectly accetable. Tipping shows thanks for a job well done. Words of kindness and gratitude go a long way with it. Be as generous as you can afford. I would certainly not suggest less than $20.

I don't think artists should expect tips from first timers because the first timer usually doesn't know. Bring him some home-made cookies to make it better. I'm serious. Not all signs of appreciation are monitary.

I don't think he'll do a bad job just because you didn't tip. That tattoo could affect his reputation, so he won't botch it on purpose. His work is art, and if word gets out that he couldn't stay in the lines, he won't get as much bussines.

Still, come bearing cookies, rice crispie treats, whatever you think he'll like. Just hope he isn't allergic to any of the ingrediants...

No he will do a good job. At lot of first time tattoeers do not tip since they do not know. I would just include a tip this time and it should be fine.

I didn't know you were suppose to tip a tattoo artist either. I thought they got paid by the hour anyhow. Trust me if you don't tip, they won't get angry. They get paid well for their skills.

I don't think that he'll do a bad job just b/c of that. I would tip 20%.

Yes if you feel that it will affect your reaction when you return again. Colours do cost more for a fact.
