I'm an asian guy who's been growing his hair out for the past three years. I'ts super long now. In the end I plan to donate it. I urge anyone to donate their hair if they plan to go short. Anyways, there's a couple things I'd like to do. Mohawks and cornrows. My hair's naturally straight and fine like most asian hair. I'd like to get big, thick cornrows, not like that idiot K. Fed or Jared Leto's puny ones. My cuz got cornrows. He said he had to get his hair permed first. Do I need to follow this step in order to get nice thick cornrows? And what comes with the territory(i.e. maintainance/cleaning)? Thanks.

Step number one is finding someone who really knows how to cornrow because very straight hair is really tricky when it comes to conrows. You won't necessarily need a perm, I guess it depends on how straight your hair really is. I had a friend of mine who got cornrows usin hair jam and a little bit of spray to hold them.

Depending on how tight it is will determine the maintenance and how long hey last. The best thing to do when it comes to cleaning is take them out, wash your hair and get a new set.

Happy braiding.

first start off greasing your hair once a weak...try as much as possible not to wash it...and then when it grows into a small fro..get twistees and as it grows out try cornrows....the minimum amount of time it may take is about 9months or so for u to get to the twistiees stage

...NO you don't need a perm, go to an ethnic hair salon that does braiding, they will hook you up...just put rubberbands on the ends to keep the braid form unraveling and when you take them out just wash and shampoo like I'm sure you may already do...it's really not a complicated process...just go into the salon and tell them you want braids or cornrolls, they'll know what you mean...

you shouldnt have to get your hair permed, go to a proffesional salon, i.e. a ethnic salon, they may have to braid your hair tighter though, since you dont have the natural curls to lock the braid in. good luck
