I was under the impression that God wrote the entire Bible. It is the "word of God" not the "word about God" after all.

While tradition says Moses, many scholars ascribe to the Documentary Hyposthesis. According to the DH, there were multiple authors. Genesis was probably a combination of two source texts, one produced in the Northern Kingdom of Israel during the reign of Roboam (called "J"), and the other in the Southern Kingdom of Judah, just prior to the Babylonian Captivity (called "E"). The two accounts were edited into a single book by a third author (called "R"), who probably completed his work during the Babylonian Captivity.

Traditionally it is believed to have been composed and complied by Moses (along with the first 5 books of teh OT) However there are variations in style and wording that certianly indicate that at least parts of it can be attributed to multiple authors. Probally based on earlier written accounts and oral traditions, as well as divine inspiration.

Supposedly Moses. It's an amazing book when you actually read it and don't listen to what other think it says. It agrees so closely with science that, to me, it proves the devine nature of the writing. Ancient people couldn't possibly have gotten it this accurate without some help.

I think a woman wrote it. After all, the women in that book always end up looking so good compared to the men.

According to many Biblical scholars there were three writers as evidenced by the way they refer to the creator. One author referred to God as Yahweh/Jehovah and the other referred to God as Elohim. The sections that refer to priestly matters appears to have been written by yet another author. This is called the documentary hypothesis.
