I once saw a doxie (weiner dog) who had eated a whole bag of miniature hershey candy bars. Other than having a horrible case of diarrhea for the next 24 hrs, he was totally fine. Dr. explained to us that the chocolate actually has to be in a more pure form (like a very dark chocolate) where it's not processed down as much and then he would've had to have eaten a few pounds of that stuff. So I would say, your dog will be just fine, other than a bad belly ache. You might want to hold off on food tonight or just a very small amount w/small amounts of water. If you start seeing signs of a stomach ache, you can withold all food and water for about 6 hrs & give 1/2 teaspoon of pepto bismol once every 3 hrs. then reintroduce small water & a bland diet of boiled chicken breast & boiled white rice, then start mixing that into his regular food for a couple days till weaned off.

If he's not vomiting then he's ok. Chocolate is only toxic in huge quantities unless your dog has a sensitive digestive system. If your dog eats chocolate often try getting some Carob treats, it's a plant that tastes just like chocolate, it's better for your dog and they're good for you too, no caffiene or sugar. They taste amazing so you can share a healty treat with your dog that's yummie and good for both of you.

What is toxic to dogs is the baking chocolate more than then a chocolate bar that is just plain chocolate
I would still take your dog to the vet to make sure things are ok.

I'd watch him. If he is acting ok, eating and drinking fine and his stools are ok then he's probably fine. If he acts lethargic or acts as if he is in pain at all, get him to the vet. Yes chocolate is toxic but I've had several dogs get into it and make it through just fine.

I'd call your vet. One time my dog ate a whole chocolate bar and was fine. I'd keep an eye on her though and watch him closely. I hope everything turns out all right!

The first thing you should do is get him to drink plenty of water to flush his system out. Then call your vet or a hotline and ask about how this could effect him. They may suggest bringing him in but pobably not. If he seems fine he probably is, dogs are incredibly resilient.

Give him hydrogen peroxide 1tsp every 5 mins till he throws up all the chocolate!!!! My dog ate chocolate donuts and I called the vet and they told me to do this and it works!!!! If he acts funny (sleepy or drugged ) then take him in to the vet. Good luck!!!

I personally think he will be fine.
if it was too much chocolate for him he might be sick a few times in the next 12 hours or so, I am guessing.
my puppy boxer ate a whole box of High Street Chocolates- PLUS the wrappers. (while we were away!! we didn't let him!!)
he was sick all night- and was completely fine afterwards.
I wouldn't worry too much.
if he is sick, for more than a few hours call your very to make sure... but I don't think you should worry

was it dark chocolate or milk chocolate , dark chocolate is more dangerous.it is in a more pure form.check him/her frequently, probably will get diarrhea, as the others have said if he is lethargic (tired and acting strangely, call or go to the vet asap)

People have it wrong about all dogs can die from eating chocolate granite its not good for their diet.
The truth it is only toxic if the dog is allergic to it.
Hope this helps
