you have the common sense to think that, but there are people who don't know. And the thing is if we are good, we know that we are going to get a reward in the other world. So God told us that if we respect and not kill, we will get a reward, if it's vice-versa He just wants us to know that we're going to pay this in the other world. Rules just help us get more organized. Understand?
Good Luck...

My thoughts is that you misunderstood everything your friend was trying to tell you. Sometimes we need to get past the deep desire to search for fault and just accept the obvious. Sure your friend doesn't kill, as the Bible commands. But if he's close enough to call a friend then you must know that he doesn't kill also because he's a decent moral person. Stop putting words into things and just accept truth. I'm sure you have heard many atheists here say they don't kill/steal/etc, and they don't even believe there is a God. When you think on that it makes your question seem somewhat of a Christian bash attempt.

Look at the world and the people how they react WITHOUT the Bible and its moral clarity.
Salt Lake City mall - guy shoots randomly, killing 5, injuring 4
Phillie shipyard - disagreement over investment. 4 dead, 1 injured.
countless murders in America
hundreds of thousands of babies aborted each year in America
50% rate in divorce
now teenagers making bomb threats in school, just to have a day off.
Wonder where the love is?
Unfortunately, selfishness is prevalent in human society. Agreeing with adversity is almost impossible. Rebellion against authority runs rampant, especially in Congress against the President's plan. You may disagree but to do anything possible to make his plans fail is irresponsible and childess.
Wonder where the love is?
Without God showing His love to others, mankind cannot receive it and share with others.

you start up out incorrect we don't choose God to coach us to love or to coach us to no longer kill. What you don't get is that there are 4 thousand years of Judeao Christian ethics and teachings that have formed the international we are residing in. it may properly be which you does no longer have comparable morality you do if it weren't so. All you may desire to do to make specific it incredibly is to study a sprint background on cultures that did no longer have a Judeao Christian background to ascertain how they dealt with the ideas of affection homicide and the status of a guy. Even in Judeao Christian background we've not appeared at issues as we do right this moment. interior the top you're what you're via fact of all those ideas that got here in the previous you lots of that are Christian in foundation. you probably did no longer shape your individual morals they have been formed via the society you have been raised in. the final you're able to do is alter them after becoming to be an person. We seek for God via fact we would desire to that's in our hearts. it may't be so for all yet for the Christian that's.

If it's just a matter of common sense and so very easy to do on your own, why aren't more people doing it?
The fact is, we are not naturally loving people, none of us. No one is born with a loving nature, we learn it from our parents. As a child of God I need to be told how to go against my natural desire for selfishness, pigheadedness, etc, to learn how to love. If my Father won't tell me how to act, who will?
The fact is, following the methods of the Bible, making what it says is most important the most important thing in your life, makes your life richer and fuller than you can imagine.

The book does not "teach" us these things, it merely reinforces God's will in us. Without actually quoting the scripture verse, it does say in the bible that His (God's) word is hidden in our hearts. From day one we know what is good and evil, right and wrong. The books are available to study out of, research into, and learn more about events and places and people who led good lives, as well as the ones who led bad lives. We are to learn vicariously through their experiences.

People fool themselves, and judge their lives with books.
Some stay away from being harsh, because it is said in book, some call others sinners, because it is written in book.
I dont know how god is going to let these people to heaven for just following books.
