An emulator is a program that allows the use of software from other
computers or game consoles i.e. SNES on your computer.
The emulator I would most recommend would be SNES9x. There are other ones, but most of them are slow or old and haven't been updated in years.
The best site to get emulators, in my opinion, would be http://www.emulator-zone.com/. They have downloads to emulators for many systems, including SNES, NES, GBA, Sega Genesis, and more. Also, many of the sites where you can download game ROMS will have emulators available for download.

An emulator is a program that "emulates" or mimics, the actions of another type of game, or console. There are emulators for most of the consoles that have ever been put out (including the commodore and atari), and also dos emulators for running old dos-based games that don't run well with current versions of windows. You can find emulators and roms (downloadable games for the specific console you are emulating, i.e if you're running an nes emulator, Super Mario 3 would be a rom you could download for your emulator to run.) Okay, that being said, you can find pretty much any emulator or rom you want for older consoles (snes is on there, by the way) at the source link below. Hope this helped, and good luck! :)

An emulator, in the most general sense, duplicates (provide an emulation of) the functions of one system with a different system, so that the second system appears to behave like the first system. Unlike a simulation, it does not attempt to precisely model the state of the device being emulated; it only attempts to reproduce its behavior.
Try snes9x
