I am worried about my dog and was googling dogs and salmonella when I ran across a similar question here. I don't know how this works, but I signed up to get an anwer. I give my 9-month old lab the recalled peanut butter on a Kong toy, about 1-2 tablespoons everyday for a week now. He doesn't seem to be sick, but it's hard to tell. I'm not calling the Emergency Vet yet, but I am worried. I don't know what to look for. He is whiney, but I think it's just because he wants to play pletch 24/7 and I'm not aiding him in that goal. Help?

If he develops vomiting, diarrhea, sore belly (when you push on it) call the vet. Otherwise thank your lucky stars all is well!
Good luck!- dd

So this peanut butter was recalled? Why? There are reasons food is recalled which is really of no concern to a dog. For instance was it recalled because the oil to peanut mixture was wrong or whatever? If your dog is not acting poorly, he's eating and drinking and playing I would not worry about it.
Dogs eat garbage for a living and somehow make it through just fine.

I was worried about this also. As my dog gets peanut butter in her Kong 2 to 3 times a week. I tossed the PB and just watched her for signs of getting sick (diareea, vomiting). She seems fine.

You could just make him an appointment with his regular vet, no need for emergencies, just to make sure he's ok because salmonella is nasty. Vomiting is a good indication and watch to make sure he's eating normally. also look for diarrhea. also keep in mind the peanut butter is just suspected to cause salmonella so their playing it safe and re-calling it. and don't change your brand of peanut butter either, they're fixing the problem so it's safe.

I had the same exact peanut butter in my cabinet, and we ate over half of it and nothing is wrong with us (we threw it away though) it's Peter Pan peanut butter and the numbers on the lid that has salmonella in it are 2111. If that's the same peanut butter you should throw it away, but I'm sure your dog will be OK. If he was sick you would know it.

If your dog isn't showing any signs of salmonella (i.e. bloody diarrhea with mucus, abdominal cramping, and nausea) within 6-74 hours of digesting the recalled peanut butter, your dog does not have salmonella. If you are still concerned, watch your dog over the next couple of days. If your puppy is still all right, your dog is fine. Just play fetch with him more often. ;).

Well now lets see,if you are giving your dog 1-2 tablespoons of peanut butter every day he may have a right to whine,he may be having trouble going to the bathroom, lay off with to much peanut butter and the dog may thank you.

If you've been giving it to him for a week and he's not already sick, he's fine. Dump the rest of the jar into the trash, just to be sure - it's not worth you or your dog getting sick to save a $4 jar of peanut butter.

I think if you're not seeing any ill effects then it is likely your jar is not contaminated. Not all of them will be, but they do a full recall on the whole batch to be safe. I'd still ditch the jar and get your refund for it (you can send your lid in and they'll reimburse you for it--found this out cuz we have a jar of it).
